About the Neurosurgery Residency Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University
The Neurosurgery Residency program at Upstate Medical University is a 6-year program of progressive education and responsibility. The goal of program is to develop the highest possible level of clinical expertise and to thoroughly prepare residents for the challenge of neurosurgical practice.
A hallmark of Upstate Medical's program is its emphasis on research. Each resident devotes two full years exclusively to research built to gain a comprehensive understanding of the human nervous system. We believe this provides a distinct advantage in both academic careers and private practice.
The program has a total complement of 10-12 residents and admits 1-2 new residents each year. The applicant must complete a one-year General Surgery internship at Upstate Medical University prior to beginning the Neurosurgery Residency.
